candy cap mushroom ice cream from humphry slocombe...

i was very excited about getting my hands on some humphry slocombe candy cap ice cream. this is a flavor that they don't make very often and i was able to buy a pint from far west fungi in the sf ferry building. the stars must have been aligned because the super friendly folks at far west fungi offered up a cold pack to help keep the ice cream pint cool as i took the train back to east bay. i loved far west fungi before....and i adore them. they didn't have to do that...but they did. one of the reasons why i was excited about getting my hands on this flavor is that i knew that i was going to be having lunch with CK today.....and i had a feeling that she'd be up for splitting the pint with me for dessert.

i mean, there are only a couple of people that i know that would be willing to try mushroom ice cream with me...and i had a feeling that CK would be one of them. after CK and i had a beautiful lunch at corso (i'll blog about that in a separate post...i'm in a bit of rush here....i'm leaving to go to san like..10 minutes...) we went back to my place, grabbed the pint, napkins, and some spoons and sat out by a grassy knoll and proceeded to dig right into the creamy goodness.

there really wasn't any hesitation from either of us.....

which goes to show everyone how much we like trying things we've never had before....

it was good. both of us thought that the flavor reminded us of something that we couldn't was also funny that we both thought "nutty" at the same time. for me, it reminded me something from childhood....but i just couldn't place it. also there was a pleasantly sweet musty earthly smell to it....that i could smell even when it was in the pint , with the lid on.

i love humphry slocombe for taking the time to figure flavors like this out. i feel really lucky to be able to try things like this and have friends that are willing to try them with me.

until later dear hearts....i don't think i'll really be able to blog this you may not hear from me for a couple of days....

many hugs and much love-

UPDATE: the best friend also tried a spoonful and she said "pancakes!"....which makes complete reminded us all of maple syrup!

I just tried the HS candy cap popsicle, also couldn't place the flavor, but when I read "nutty" and "childhood" the word that popped into my head was "Crackerjacks"! But only the very best, freshest box of them.
