food porn at the shake shack

as i had been pre-warned about the lines at the shake shack, much deliberation went into the timing of our visit to this very popular burger & shakes place. the upper west side location on columbus and 77th opened at 10:45am and hence, we arrived at 11am.

typically, this is a bit early for lunch, but i am so glad we did this as it started to crowd up after we arrived and table seating is very limited. i was a bit curious to see what the big deal was about and considering that multiple foodie friends recommended that i visit the shake shack and it isn't like the sf bay area is lacking in good burgers.

we all ordered burgers and fries....

and you know what? the burger was juicy and excellent....and the fries were surprisingly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. this was a bit of surprise since the shape of the fries reminded me of what one would get at a diner in the middle of now where....you know....where they would be all mush.....but, these fries were not.....

i ordered the shack burger which consisted of the burger patty, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and the "shack sauce".

if you order a regular hamburger or cheeseburger, the default is no lettuce or tomato....my guess is that you'd have to order it specifically. i can see why the shake shack is so popular. yummmm.... doesn't this look good?

the taste and quality were excellent and it wasn't as expensive as i would have expected for the quality. unfortunately, i was too stuffed to order the frozen custard!!! i am hoping that i'll have a chance to stop by tomorrow for the custard and they have a separate (and shorter) line if you are just ordering custard, shakes, or other drinks. i love frozen custard and that is something that i haven't been able to find in the bay area at all. i'll definitely keep you posted.....

much love from manhattan,

me
