roasted pear with cremoso and blood orange zest

i've been doing quite a bit of experimentation in my kitchen lately. i'm not certain what has spurred some of the more unusual pairs that i have been doing recently, but i have a feeling that this is a "food mood" that i am going to be in for a while. today, i decided that i wanted to couple cheese and a pear.......it sounds pretty simple doesn't it? fruit and cheese? yes? well, this is where the experimentation came in.

i decided that i wanted to roast the pear. i was in the mood for some hot fruit. so i prepped one of the pears ....

and then added some mcevoy extra virgin olive oil (which is usually an oil that i only save to eat "raw" as i love the flavor...but for some reason i thought i'd rather use it with the pear to underscore the fruit) and popped that into the very hot oven for a while.

then i purused my cheese draw. yes, i have a cheese drawer. at any given time, i have 3-4 block of cheeses plus at least two grated kinds in the fridge. what do i have in my fridge at the moment? i have a munster, ricotta salata, a wedge of st. andre brie, and cremoso. i bought cremoso on a whim the last time i was at the cheese board collective because i had never heard of it before. i decided why not try the cremoso....so i unwrapped the block and had no expectations for this cheese....

when i cut off a slice, i immediately noticed the nubbly texture.....which reminded me a bit of ricotta....

then i just popped it into my mouth and thought.....hmmm....soft and salty....this would be a good "crumble" sort of cheese. i can imagine that this cheese would be particularly delicious on top of eggs or braised greens actually. i decided that i would add it to the roasted pears...but it was bugging me as i kept thinking that it would need something else.

this was in the back of my mind as i went back to my computer to work on a few things until the pear was properly roasted. once the pear was done, i took it out of the oven.....

and plated a couple of sections ......

then it came to me...i should try some blood orange zest with this......so i grabbed a blood orange......

and then quickly crumbled a slice of the cheese ontop of the roasted pear ....

and added some zest from the blood orange.

i found this to be a nice snack.....i enjoyed the pairing of salty cheese and the hot pear....and the aroma of the blood orange zest was a lovely touch. also this snack wasn't overly sweet. oddly enough, i find that i am not in the mood for super sweet things at the moment. this is one of the reasons why i love working from home.....i love having immediate access to my kitchen for my breaks away from work....and having the opportunity to make quick snacks according to my mood at the moment.

well, speaking of work.....i must get back to it.
